POSTING 22: NOTES ON KELANTAN ROYAL FAMILY FEUD

What has been happening in Kelantan is totally unnecessary if the governance of law is adhered to.

We are to be reminded of the implications of the royal feud in the context of the following:

1. EMBARRASSMENT

The current feud is embarrassing to rakyat Kelantan, to kerabat Kelantan as a whole and to kerabat of other states in Malaysia as well.

2. THREAT TO MONARCHY

With the infighting, the public begin to question the relevancy of the monarchy.

Furthermore, the situation in Kelantan could worsen and threaten the monarchical institution as a whole.

It also has the potential to open up the floodgates of criticism from non-Malays and non-Muslims and also from the minority of Malays who are anti-royalists.

3. REGARD FOR THE LAW

Kelantan royals, through the chain of events that has taken place, are seen as not respecting the law on the succession issue, yet they expect others to follow the law!

They instead are being seen as resorting to pre-constitutional era's methods!

Comments from fellow Malays and Malaysians on the feud are that “Kelantan royals are lawless!”.

4. PERCEPTION OF THE PUBLIC

Because of the stigma of being lawless, those responsible for the killing of the royal bodyguard are being chastised.

It is an open secret that the Raja Perempuan wants her third son, the Tengku Temenggong, to be the ruler instead of the legitimate heir to the throne, the Tengku Mahkota.

The public are very confused by the conflicting information published in the media.

On the one hand, the Raja Perempuan and the Tengku Temenggong reported that the Sultan is fit and is ready to resume his responsibility any time soon.

On the other hand, the newspapers and the video-clips showed otherwise.

The constant untruths narrated by the Raja Perempuan and the Tengku Temenggong obviously underrate the intelligence of the rakyat!

The objection of the Raja Perempuan and the Tengku Temenggong for the disclosure of the medical report made by the panel of qualified government doctors hints of an ulterior motive to hide behind the actual state of the Sultan’s health!

The Raja Perempuan and the Tengku Temenggong are being seen to be using the ailing ruler’s name or word as a tool to justify all of their actions!

CONCLUSION

In summary, what is required is that the Pemangku Raja be allowed to continue to perform his function to the rakyat.

He can do without the encumbrances purposely set before him.

He does not want to be distracted from his responsibility by continuously having to watch his back and having to anticipate what is the ensuing agenda!

With the greatest of love and respect for the current Sultan who is undeniably incapacitated (regardless of what the medical report from Singapore will say!), and with Kelantan being encumbered by the present undesirable situation as mentioned above, Kelantan need to appoint a new ruler according to the state constitution!
